It has been said that sharing personal stories is one of the most effective ways to change people’s hearts and minds. This is my story and I hope you are inspired to share it with others.

Shane’s story ripped my heart out. It aches for him and all those who have gone through things like this. It is so hard for me to comprehend how anyone can claim to be compassionate, understanding, and loving and yet feel nothing when they hear these stories. Love is a true, immeasurable and extremely valuable thing that so many take for granted. These men had that beautiful, true love that we all long for and wanted to marry just like any other couple would, yet they were not allowed to because of their sexual orientation. How is this right? Did they stop being human when they realized they were gay? I just don’t understand it. And to have this tragedy happen and all that followed… I can only imagine what he must be going through. I feel so awful for him. This should not happen!

I just don’t understand how people can think that denying certain human beings the right to marry the one they love is right, I don’t care what any religious text says. Imagine for yourself if this was your story. How would you feel? I can imagine how I would feel if what happened to Shane and Tom happened to me, and I would never, ever want to inflict that on anyone. Ever.
