Smashing Pumpkins - Raindrops + Sunshowers
from the album Machina | The Machines of God

Lyrics:

Rain falls on everyone
The same old rain
And I’m just trying to
Walk with you
Between the raindrops

I send my echo out
To get your love without
Obscured reflections of
My love

Rain falls on everyone
The same old rain
And I’m just trying to
Walk with you
Between the raindrops

I’ll save a prayer for you
So lost and longing to
Be dragged through dirty streets
Wrapped up in clean white sheets
And if you think they’ll watch you now
You should know they won’t

Rain falls on everyone
The same old rain
And I’m just trying to
Walk with you
Between the raindrops

And I’m just trying to
Walk with you
Between the raindrops

I send my echo out
To get your love without
Obscured reflections of
Of my secret love

Force down the words about
To get your love without
Obscured reflections of
My love

And I’m just trying to
Talk to you
Between the raindrops

Rain falls on everyone
The same old rain
And I’m just trying to
Walk with you
Between the raindrops

Rain falls on everyone
The same old rain
And I’m just trying to
Walk with you
Between the raindrops

And I’m just trying to
Walk with you
Between the raindrops

Immersion Artist of the Week: Blackfield

Song: Epidemic
Album: Blackfield II [CD||Vinyl]

After “Waving”, this is my favorite Blackfield song. (“My Gift of Silence” comes after, in case you were wondering.) This song is perfect in every way to me, especially the instrumental section between the last choruses, and I love singing it. So wonderful, it is!

I hate that I won’t get to hear this and so many other songs live with both Steven and Aviv on stage together. I was finding this Immersion Series harder and harder to do as this week wore on. In same cases, I wish I hadn’t started it because it hurt with each post that I was going to miss Steven’s last show as a member. That’s how much it means to me. But I’m sure I’m not the only one.

"This love is slowly killing me. For me, there’s no one else."

If you can, please take the chance to go see Blackfield perform their only US date, in NYC, and their last ever with co-founding member Steven Wilson. Enjoy it for me, please. TICKETS

Lyrics:

Don’t say everything’s okay
Don’t tell me that it’s just a phase
It doesn’t help me

All the stars are standing still
The anger and the sleeping pills
Are all that’s left now

An epidemic in my heart
Takes hold and slowly poisons me
Her will won’t let me breathe
It comes in waves and bleeds me dry
This love is slowly killing me
For me, there’s no one else

Jealousy just eats me up
Your knife has made the deepest cut
My heart is open

You say that there must be an end
But afterwards we’ll still be friends
It seemed so easy

An epidemic in my heart
Takes hold and slowly poisons me
And her will won’t let me breathe
It comes in waves and bleeds me dry
This love is slowly killing me
For me, there’s no one else

An epidemic in my heart
(An epidemic in my heart)
Takes hold and slowly poisons me
And her will won’t let me breathe
It comes in waves and bleeds me dry
(It comes in waves and bleeds me dry)
This love is slowly killing me
For me, there’s no one else

Don’t say everything’s okay
Don’t tell me that it’s just a phase
It doesn’t help me

Immersion Artist of the Week: Blackfield

Song: My Gift Of Silence
Album: Blackfield II [CD||Vinyl]

This is one of my favorite Blackfield songs ever, written by Steven Wilson. This is my favorite one of theirs songs to sing, and I often find myself shaking after I’ve finished. you see, there are times when I find myself so inside a song that I literally am shaking when I’m done singing it. It doesn’t happen every time I sing those songs that this has happened with, but it happens most of the time when I sing this one. There are times when I find myself with tears in my eyes when it’s over. I don’t know how it does it, but it’s the only Blackfield song this happens with. I wish so much that I could hear it live and in person with Steven singing it, but, alas, that will not be my reality.

Lyrics:

If I compiled all my crimes and my lies into amnesty
Would you come back to me?
The smile on my lips is a sign that I don’t hear you leaving me
And I don’t hear my own soul scream

I’ll read your lips, watch your scarf play at your hips and I know it’s true
But I don’t hear him call to you

Don’t blame yourself
Don’t change yourself
I just want to be over you, save your love
Don’t hate yourself

If I compiled all my crimes and my lies into amnesty
Would you come back to me?
The smile on my lips is a sign that I don’t hear you leaving me
And I don’t hear my own soul scream

Don’t blame yourself
Don’t change yourself
I just want to be over you, save your love
Don’t hate yourself

Immersion Artist of the Week: Blackfield

Song: Some Day
Album: Blackfield II [CD||Vinyl]

My favorite Blackfield album is II, which is definitely in my list of favorite albums ever. This song has that melancholy and sadness with a glimmer of hope somewhere, which I like a lot. I really love singing this one, and I especially love how it opens up with the strings in the ending. This song as a wonderful movement within me, and I really adore it.

Lyrics:

When you were a boy
You had no place inside your parents’ world
You were falling like the leaves
From an old and dying tree

You went to school
But the teachers made you feel a fool
While the children played with joy
You were the one they would avoid

Some day
You will find a better place to stay
You’ll never need to feel this way again
Again, again

Show a smile
They’d like to have you in their members’ club
They’ll buy you drinks and tell you lies
Paper umbrella with some ice

No one cares
About that fucking pretty face you have
It means nothing much this life
So find the highest cliff and dive

Some day
You will find a better place to stay
You’ll never need to feel this way again
Again, again

Immersion Artist of the Week: Blackfield

Song: Pain
Album: Blackfield [CD||Vinyl]

I admit that my favorite Blackfield music comes from the first two albums, which is one of the greatest reasons why it kills me that my insane campaign to raise money to see Steven’s last show with Blackfield is a huge failure. These songs, although I don’t know how to convey it, mean a lot to me, and to see and hear some of them performed live with Steven through my own eyes and ears in person is a big deal. I know I sound like a stupid teenager, but it’s true.

If you can, please take the chance to go see Blackfield perform their only US date, in NYC, and their last ever with co-founding member Steven Wilson. Enjoy it for me, please. TICKETS

Lyrics:

Here I’m standing on the seashore
She is gone, now she’s gone
All the angels praying for me
As I fall, as I fall

While I’m melting in the rain
Deep in pain, she is so far
Will we ever meet again
As friends, after so long?

To my nightmare with the devil
I’ll go strong, I’ll go strong
All my friends now try to save me
What a joke, what a joke

While I’m melting in the rain
Deep in pain, she is so far
Will we ever meet again
As friends, after so long?

Immersion Artist of the Week: Blackfield

Song: Miss U
Album: Blackfield II [CD||Vinyl]

So, on this last day of this Immersion Series, Week 4, featuring Blackfield, I’m going to post my most favorite songs by them (with the exception of “Waving”, which I started the week with as it is my top favorite). Sound good?

If we’re ranking, this one is #5 of my favorites off of this album (I do weird things like rank the songs on albums. I don’t always do it. Just sometimes.). I hope you enjoy it! I personally quite enjoy singing it as well. :-)

If you can, go see Blackfield’s only date in the US this tour, and their last with co-founder Steven Wilson, in NYC for me: TICKETS

Lyrics:

They said you’re in love again
And I tried to hide my pain
I was buried in my bed
With your pictures in my head

You were living another life
It cuts me like a knife
I hope you understand
I’m the one who’s left behind

Tomorrow you’ll be gone
And I’ll miss you
Yeah I’ll miss you
Yeah I’ll miss you

They said you’re in love again
And my eyes start to burn
Wherever you are now
I wish you could hear my silent sigh

It’s not that I try to blame
It’s just kind of a rainy day
I hope you understand
I’m the one who’s left behind

Tomorrow you’ll be gone
And I’ll miss you
Yeah I’ll miss you
Yeah I’ll miss you

Immersion Artist of the Week: Blackfield

Song: Glow
Album: Blackfield [CD||Vinyl]

This is my most favorite song off of the first Blackfield album. There is so much in this song I identify with, and so I can sing it with feel. This song has come to mean a lot to me and I hope to be able to pay homage to it in a cover version of my own one day. Until then, I shall sing along…

Hopefully you are more fortunate than I and will be able to possibly experience this song live and in person next week when Blackfield performs their only US date in NYC, and their last ever with co-founding member Steven Wilson. TICKETS

Lyrics:

I show the scars of every fear and doubt
I hurt myself to let the darkness out, out
The days go by and nothing brings me joy
The glow was strong when I was a boy but it’s gone

And the glow, it goes so slow, it goes…

Cracks appear and passion slips away
Colors fade and turn to shades of gray, fade away

And the glow, it goes so slow, it goes…

If you knew the man I used to be
Please hold me under the sea
Or scratch my arms till they bleed
Save me
Will you help me to feel the glow?

The glow, it goes so slow, it goes…

Immersion Artist of the Week: Blackfield

Song: Jupiter
Album: Blackfield IV [CD+DVD-AV||CD only||Vinyl]

This is the lead single of the latest Blackfield offering, which is being promoted next week, 1st May, in New York City. This will be Blackfield’s only US date this tour, and it will also be Steven Wilson’s last as a member. He is saying goodbye to the band.

I’ve been trying to raise money to go, but have pathetically failed with a gofundme campaign that never had a chance anyway. It kills me that I am unable to be there, but… That’s the way life is sometimes. You can’t always get what you want…

If you are in NYC, or can afford to go, please to go and take in the show. Pack the house, sell it out, and give Steven a beautiful last night with Blackfield. Say hello to him for me. GET TICKETS HERE

Lyrics:

Once we were young We had no plans
What simplicity of love
We used to get it to get it all
We weren’t scared to fail and fall

Now, all I can do is to stand, watch
Those new boys in the game
How they’re laughing and having fun
Making rules under the sun

I won’t win her pretty eyes tonight
It’s been so long since I played it right
I’ll get to Jupiter and halfway back
Before she’ll even notice I’m around

They used to call me A city queen
But now God’s playing his jokes on me
I’m all alone far from the city
I’ve got no room no time for dreams

Won’t win in her pretty eyes tonight
It’s been so long since I played it right
I’ll get to Jupiter and halfway back
Before she’ll even notice I’m around

Once we were young We had no plans
What simplicity of love
We used to get it to get it all
We had no time to fail and fall

I won’t win her pretty eyes tonight
It’s been so long since I played it right
I’ll get to Jupiter and halfway back
Before she’ll even notice I’m around

Once we were young We had no plans
What simplicity of love
We used to get it to get it all
We had no time to fail and fall

I’ll get to Jupiter and halfway back
Before she’ll even notice I’m around

Song: Summer
Album: Blackfield [CD||Vinyl]

I invite you to close your eyes, listen, and just feel. Let the pictures fly in cinematic movement through your mind, creating an impromptu video in your mind to go with this lovely track.

Lyrics:

Love me as the summer gone
When eyes were closed and days were long, so long
I burned a torch for you but all the while
Somewhere in the haze you lost your smile

Love me as the winter comes
Don’t cast your shadow on my soul, please don’t
Don’t let me sink, don’t let the darkness in
Let your perfect fingers touch my skin

Heart needs a home
It’s a dark and empty road when you’re alone

Love me as the springtime comes
Let your song drift down the stairs to me
Waiting here along the way to blue
Remembering the days I spent with you

Heart needs a home
It’s a dark and empty road when you’re alone

Immersion Artist of the Week: Blackfield

Song: Open Mind
Album: Blackfield [CD||Vinyl]

This is not only the opener of the first ever Blackfield album, but, to my knowledge, this is the first song that Aviv Geffen presented to Steven Wilson for possible collaboration. (Someone please correct me if I am in err.) Steven added lyrics to the instrumental track and it became what you are listening to now.

When I listen, I often sing along and wish I could sing both the melody and harmony at once, but, since that’s obviously not possible, I often go between the two. I love the way this song opens up with the strings at the end, like the sky just opened up into brilliant sun through dissipating clouds, its colour watery and true. Like the opening of a mind. Perfect. :-)

Lyrics:

Here’s a song from an open mind
I give it to you because I can
And if you’re thinking that it’s not that kind
it’s cause my mood swings
make me feel ashamed
It can pass the time

A girl with eyes that see a hundred years
Half remembered, this is my dream
Spinning out from where the hole appears
I’ve never seen her
but I’ve got photographs
It can blow your mind

An idea falls from a porcelain sky
It won’t make you rich
and it won’t get you high

(Out of the)
Out of the void it comes
from an open mind
(Out of the)
Out of the void it comes
it comes from my mind

Immersion Artist of the Week: Blackfield

Song: This Killer
Album: Blackfield II [CD||Vinyl]]

This song has always spoken to me, and I relate so very well that it’s a bit sad, really. When I sing it, I change the gender, and I sometimes have to detach myself from it in order to sing it or I will cry, it hits that close to home in those moments. I think we can all relate to the feeling of being our own worst enemies, and I know for myself that I’m always struggling with the ‘killer’ in me. May I overcome her.

~~~
Lyrics:
Don’t leave the door ajar
Don’t walk away
Don’t leave me in the dark
You think you know me well
It makes me laugh
Cause I don’t know myself
This killer on the run
He steals from me the sun
He’ll catch me off my guard
He likes me when I’m down and when I’m sad
Falling man
Falling man
It’s always me alone
That hears the noise
'Cause it's my inner voice
So stay inside your home
And hide away
Before I lose control
This killer on the run
He steals from me the sun
He’ll catch me off my guard
He likes me when I’m down and when I’m sad
Falling man
Falling man
This killer on the run
He steals from me the sun
And I can say I know him well
And so can he because it’s me
He is me
He is me
Song: Waving
Album: Welcome To My DNA [CD||Vinyl]
When I first listened to this song, it evoked some strong reaction in me that I not only had tears escape, but I also found that it brought me a big smile. This song does not only bring me so much happy when I hear it (I often am unable to help myself and I dance—I’ve even done it in public with my headphones on), it has come to hold a very special key within it for me. It’s not a lyric thing, really, it’s just… a feeling I get within that I find seems to light a path. It’s hard to explain, but it need only make sense to me. ;-)
This song has come to mean a lot to me, and so I choose this is the first song in my spontaneous Immersion Series week honoring Blackfield. :-)
~~~

Lyrics:

Turn up the noise
Let’s see if you can maintain your poise
Edge out the door
And feel it if you swim back to the shore

I do believe
I’m clinging to the warm bleed in the trees

I wave and I turn off the light

Your dress may be torn but you wear it well
All this and more may be in your spell
Four letter word but it isn’t real
All this speed inside you
A sneer on the edge of your sanity
Your bludgeon the sound like it’s unappealing
Pouring your scorn on all pride and joy
All this fear inside you

Stay Tuned: Immersion Begins Shortly

I’ve decided that, on this Tuesday, April 22nd, I’d start an impromptu Immersion Series featuring the band I am currently attempting to raise funds to see, Blackfield.

My video plea on GoFundMe doesn’t convey how much the music itself means to me, which I regret, and so I hope to rectify that now.

It may be too little too late (as I’m only at 8% of my goal), but it’s worth a try.

Stay tuned. There is more to come…

This is my video ‘plea’ for the crowdfunding site, gofundme.com.

I am looking to raise money for a trip to New York City to see Blackfield, one of my favorite bands whom I’ve never seen live, on May 1st and it’s coming up fast! It’s more than just a concert to me, though. It’s the last time we will see Steven Wilson, the man who saved my life, as a member of the band. I can usually be okay with the fact that I’m too broke to go to shows outside my city or state, and I know there are more important things to raise money for than a trip to see a concert, but my heart won’t let this one go.

Please watch the video to learn more about my story. :-)

The Alarm - Permanence In Change (live)
from the live album Electric Folklore Live
(album version on Eye Of The Hurricane)

~~~
Daylight breaks on the streets of my life
Where no sun shines there bums refusal to die
In the shadows of heartache my dreams come alive
I’ve been searching for love to give meaning to life
Oh no, you make me feel real
Oh no, I’ve got you, you’ve got me
And that’s all we need
A reason to believe
Tonight my love will never die
Tonight I will lay down my life
Wherever we run, wherever we go
Tonight I will be yours and you will be mine
In the morning light hope comes on the dawn
A turning point after all these years
In the strength borne of hardship
I knew we’d make it through
So throw back your head babe
These dreams are coming true
Oh no, there’s blood sweat and tears now
Oh no, I’ve found you, you’ve found me
And that’s all we need a reason to believe
Tonight my love will never die
Tonight I will lay down my life
Wherever we run, wherever we go
Tonight I will be yours and you will be mine
Tonight we’ll go beyond these realms
Of where the sun goes down
We will be together
There is permanence in change
'Cause I found you you found me
And now we’ve found a reason to believe
Tonight our love will never die
Tonight I will lay down my life
Wherever we run, wherever we go
Tonight I will be yours and you will be mine
You will be mine
You will be mine
You will be mine
Daylight breaks on the streets of my life
Where no sun shines there bums refusal to die…
